The Seaside Garden
A quiet corner of the Cornish coast, where the garden meets the sea and the weather is part of the pleasure.
A garden above the water
Where the hotel gives way to the coast
Seaholme sits by the sea, and the garden is where the house softens into the landscape. Mature tamarisk and sea thrift frame the view, while low Cornish hedges create sheltered benches where you can watch the tide turn without leaving the hotel.
The garden is designed to feel like an extension of the coastal path—never manicured, always changing. In spring, wild garlic and sea campion scent the breeze; in autumn, the last of the hydrangeas hold the light a little longer.
Through the year
A garden that shifts with the Cornish weather
Spring
Primroses and thrift bloom along the paths, and the first swallows return to the eaves. The garden wakes slowly, mirroring the lengthening days.
Summer
Long evenings stretch into dusk, and the scent of lavender lingers after sunset. Guests often gather on the terrace with a glass of local wine as the light fades over the water.
Autumn
The garden takes on the russets and golds of the surrounding moorland. Storms roll in from the west, but the sheltered corners remain calm.
Winter
Frost traces the stone walls, and the bare branches of the tamarisk frame the sea like a sketch. The garden is quieter, but the views are never more dramatic.
Privacy and space
A garden for guests only
The garden is part of the hotel and is reserved for those staying at Seaholme or dining in the restaurant. With only six rooms, it is rare for anyone to have to share the quiet.
There are no crowds, no schedules—just the rhythm of the waves and the occasional cry of a gull. Whether you’re reading in the morning sun, taking tea in the afternoon, or simply listening to the sea at night, the garden is yours to enjoy at your own pace.
Dining in the open air
Private meals where the land meets the sea
On warm evenings, we can arrange private dinners in the garden. The table is set beneath the tamarisk, with lanterns and candles reflecting off the silver leaves. The menu is built around the day’s catch and whatever is fresh from the local farms—no fuss, just the best of Cornwall, served where the garden gives way to the coast.
